What are essentials oils?
Essential Oils have been used for thousands of years. They are commonly referred to as the “lifeblood of plants”. What do I mean by that? Well just as we humans have blood that flows through our bodies, supplying us with vitamins, minerals and nutrients that keep us alive, plants have a similar system that we know as essential oils. Depending on the plant, different extraction methods are used to harvest the precious oil which we can use to promote full-body wellness and emotional health.
Why young living essential Oils?
Unfortunately, the Essential Oils industry is not regulated. What does it mean to operate in an industry that is not regulated? Basically, a company is able to label oils as organic and therapeutic when they may contain only a few percent of a pure substance, the rest of the product is often made up of synthetics, chemicals, and oils that have been adulterated. Young Living is the oil company I trust that produces Grade A essential oils. For health, we are only ever concerned with Grade A essential oils.
Grade A oils are therapeutic, made from organically grown plants and distilled at low temperatures. There are many factors that can affect the quality of an oil. These include things like pesticides, pollution and how the land was previously farmed. Often people turn to essential oils to help minimize the toxic load on the body and environment. It makes sense to source an oil that has been cultivated in the purest way rather than a product that is laden with chemicals.
Young living seed to seal process
One of the things that stands out to me is Young Living’s Seed to Seal process, the only company that holds itself to such high standards. It’s a promise of integrity by the founder Dr Gary Young. Seed to Seal means each plant is hand-weeded, there are no pesticides used, no chemicals, and no weed killers. The plants are harvested at their peak ( for example Ylang Ylang is harvested at 2 am when the flower is at its most potent). Before the bottling, each batch of oil is then put through a rigorous testing process. Seed to Seal is not a slogan, it’s a promise. You can learn more by checking out the Young Living story at seedtoseal.com, and fall in love with the company as I have.
How do you use Essential Oils?
There are several different ways:
- Breathe them in Baby: Simply inhale directly from the bottle, rub a few drops between your hands and breathe deeply or use a cold air, ultrasonic diffuser (super important to maintain the therapeutic integrity of the oil)
- Apply them to your body: Either NEAT (directly to your skin) or diluted in a little carrier oil such as a good quality coconut or olive oil. Diluted is always recommended if you are new to essential oils, have sensitive skin, applying to sensitive areas of the body, using what we call a “hot” oil or applying to children.
- Take them internally: Young Living has a range of essential oils which are approved by the TGA and FDA for taking internally, flavouring your food/drink or taking in a capsule.
